Make your Move near the Beach!
Here are the best spots for a "beach within an hour, but land around you" visit — these are the areas I'd put on your 2027 scouting trip:
Top areas to visit
1. Foley (~20–25 min to Gulf Shores)
- Closest real "town" to the beaches with genuine land options — small acreage lots, mini-farm zoning on the north and east side.
- Full amenities: hospital, shopping, restaurants. Best all-around balance of beach access + space.
2. Elberta & Summerdale (~25–35 min to beaches)
- Small towns between Foley and Robertsdale. This is the sweet spot for acreage — 1–10+ acre parcels are common and much more affordable than coastal prices.
- Rural character, but 30 minutes from everything.
3. Loxley & Robertsdale (~30–40 min to beaches)
- Fast-growing northern Baldwin County. Larger tracts, small farms, more house for the money.
- Good if you want land, new construction options, and easy I-10 access.
4. Magnolia Springs & Silverhill (~30–35 min to beaches)
- Charming, quiet, semi-rural communities near Fairhope/Foley. Fewer big tracts, but lovely 1–3+ acre home sites.
5. Fairhope & Daphne (~40–50 min to Gulf Shores; Fairhope has its own bayside beachfront)
- Eastern Shore livability at its best — walkable downtowns, great schools, arts scene. Land is pricier here, but outlying pockets (Fairhope north, Daphne east) still have acreage.
6. Lillian / Perdido area (AL side) (~15–30 min to beaches)
- Rural, wooded parcels near the Florida line; closest to Orange Beach/Perdido Key.
7. Stockton / Bay Minette (north Baldwin) (~50–60 min to beaches)
- The most land for the money — 5–20+ acre properties are common. Max distance from the beach, max space.
What land + home prices look like (rough, 2025–26 market)
| Area | Typical price, 1–5 acres w/ home |
|---|---|
| Fairhope / Daphne | $500K–$800K+ |
| Foley / Magnolia Springs | $350K–$550K |
| Elberta / Summerdale / Silverhill | $275K–$450K |
| Loxley / Robertsdale | $300K–$450K |
| Lillian / Stockton / Bay Minette | $250K–$400K (largest lots) |
For actual listings
I can't pull live real-estate listings, so when you're ready to browse, search these areas on thebestmovetoday.com using filters like "Lot size: 1+ acre" — those two sites cover Baldwin County well. A local buyer's agent in Baldwin County (Foley or Fairhope office) is also worth engaging before your trip; land parcels move fast there.
Suggested visit plan
- Day 1: Fairhope → Magnolia Springs → Foley
- Day 2: Elberta → Summerdale → Loxley → Robertsdale
- Day 3: Lillian → Perdido area, then a beach day at Gulf Shores/Orange Beach to test the drive yourself
Baldwin County (all of the above) is the region to focus on — it's the fastest-growing county in Alabama for exactly the reasons on your list.
